Hossein Nouroozi

Hossein Noroozi

Hossein Nouroozi, a 20-year-old seasonal labourer from Dabiran in Fars Province, was killed under torture following his imprisonment on false charges. Son of Yaqoob, Hossein worked in the fields around Kazeroon, picking tomatoes to support his family. On June 7, 2023, while working, officers from Police Station 12 and security forces suddenly arrived, arresting Hossein on charges of theft without evidence.

Following his arrest, Hossein was taken to Bushehr for further criminal investigation, where he endured severe torture. Security forces later transferred him to the Intelligence Department in Bushehr to coerce a confession. When his father, Yaqoob, discovered Hossein’s detention, he immediately inquired at the Intelligence Department and managed to visit his son, who was visibly suffering from injuries from severe torture. Despite his father’s pleas for Hossein’s release, officials issued only threats in response.

Hossein’s condition deteriorated under continued torture, and he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The forensic report confirmed his cause of death as torture and severe head trauma. His body was returned to his family on June 18, 2023, for burial in Behesht-e Fatemeh Cemetery in Dabiran. Although his family filed a complaint, the authorities in Bushehr made empty promises of investigation, and no one has been held accountable.

Since the Woman-Life-Freedom uprising, the impunity of security forces has only intensified, allowing these crimes to persist without consequence. The Iranian people are increasingly aware of the need for a government free from corruption, with fair laws that protect citizens from such persecution and brutality.

Hossein’s tragic story reflects the larger call for justice in Iran, where countless lives have been sacrificed in pursuit of freedom and accountability.
